After a long fourteen year wait, Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Dash, Violet, and Jack-Jack are back in Incredibles 2, directed by Brad Bird.
Taking place right after the events of 2004's The Incredibles with the Parr family leaving the track meet when The Underminer shows up to reek havoc on the city. With the help of Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson), they defeat their foe but Supers are still outlawed, and the police are not happy with all the damage they caused. Coming into the picture are the Deavor siblings (Bob Odenkirk and Catherine Keener), who want to bring Supers back into the limelight by showing that they are, in fact, good. Standing in their way is the new big bad, The Screenslaver, who wants to keep Supers away by taking over all the screens in the world and turning people into mindless zombies.
This is a great film for so many reasons and a well worth the long wait (we had to deal with THREE CARS MOVIES in the meantime). It evolves the story by focusing on Elastigirl, and the fact that Mr. Incredible is taking a back seat gives his character new depth. They also introduce new Supers (my favorites Sophia Bush as Voyd and Phil LaMarr in a dual role). The Screenslaver takes time to evolve as a villain, and but has clear motivations much like Syndrome in the first film. The initial fight sequence between Elastigirl and Screenslaver alone makes this a film you'll want to see on the largest screen possible unless you're prone to seizures. Also, Jack-Jack gets his powers, and hilarity ensues.
As an added bonus, make sure you get there on time to see the Pixar short Bao. It does have something to do with those delicious steam bun sandwiches, and it's the best short they've done since Piper. This and the feature are your frontrunners for next year's Academy Awards.
Incredibles 2 is rated PG for action violence. What are your thoughts on the film? Follow me on facebook and instagram and let me know what you think.
